Juniata College’s History Department was pleased to welcomed Dr. Ran Zwigenberg, Associate Professor of Asian Studies, History, and Jewish Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, to speak at the annual Delbert McQuaide Distinguished Lectureship in History. Dr. Zwigenberg’s lecture was titled “Japan’s Modern Castles: Reclaiming the Past and Proclaiming the Future”. The lecture’s primary focus was Japan’s castles from the late nineteenth century. Japan’s castles are a prominent symbol of Japan’s identity. The role of Japan’s castles has changed significantly over time due to Japans complicated political history.
